Thanksgiving

I have a lot to be thankful for this year; a job, my family and my health, as for the actual day, we had an easy to prepare Thanksgiving dinner at home (thanks to Boston Market). Thanksgiving day was a small gathering of just our immediate family (wife, kids and my sister in law).

The day after I managed to get in a 1 hour bike ride, the weather wasn't too bad, sunny with temps in the low 30's and wind at around 10-11 mph.

That's my yearly total as of Nov. 28th

UPDATE: regarding my PolarTraining account, after a last attempt to contact Polar (with two different email addresses) I finally got a reply from them and now have access again to my account and all the data that was stored there.

On Sat. it was back to Transition for a RyJax (Spinning & Yoga) class. This week it was TT intervals to determine our power training zones.

Winter riding

Because of too much of this...
I've been doing a lot more of this...I just finished the 2nd month of RyJax (Spinning
+ Yoga), I may sign up for Jan. and Feb. classes as
well. It looks like I'll finish out the year with
about 4,500 total miles

Year to date bike mileage at +4000 miles

This is an all time high for me, last year I did approximately 2000 miles, but this year I really blew that out. Part of it is that I'm getting more focused on a regular training schedule, so some of the miles are indoors, on the trainer. But I can only take so much of that, even with my recorded rides playing and the tunes cranking. The other part was that I got more involved with the bike club that I belong to (Spring City Spinners) and attended more Century rides this year than I ever had in the past. I rode at least 2 x 10o mile rides and 3 metric century rides this past summer. So all of that, plus weekly and weekend rides brought the grand total above 4000.

This week I fell a little behind my weekly average, due to my bike being in the shop, but it's back now and ready for the next month of RyJax (AKA Spinning & Yoga - it was called Spoga, but I think someone else registered that name).

I just joined an new affiliate program for a product called RoadID. I think the product is a great idea is and I have one on order. You can check them out yourself by clicking on the RoadID widget under my Profile on the right. A percentage of each RoadID you purchase is donated to charity (the website has an option to let you pick from several different choices).

Safe riding all (weather permitting)

Harry Houdini a Superhero?

It's been a busy week, so not as much time on the trainer as I would have liked. I was out a couple of days for training, down in Chicago. However, the train ride down did give me the opportunity to get a good start on a new audio book called; The Secret life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero. So far it's been very good, exploring Houdini's early life, his early interest in locks as well as being apprenticed to a locksmith in Appleton, WI. I don't want to give to much away, but the authors paint a convincing picture that Harry was, by association, one of the first international spies for America's fledgling Secret Service. I'm about half way through the book, but so far I'd recommend it if you've had any interest in Houdini.

The third week of RyJax was the busiest yet. All the CompuTrainers were filled today and there were a few people who brought their own (cycleops or rollers) in order to participate.

RyJax: week two

This weeks RyJax session (see previous post about RyJax) was pyramid endurance intervals on the bike followed by yoga stretching and relaxation. Which was then followed by Hot Chocolate and a scone at the coffee shop next door.
