A View from the Exercise Ball

While doing some stretches, it occurred to me that the view of the ceiling in the next room had a kind of stark appearance. So I grabbed the camera and took a picture from the same vantage point.

The winter here in Wisconsin has been especially bad for outdoor biking, so all of my miles, so far this year, have been indoors. Also, my blogging has been mostly quick posts to twitter, either directly or via Dailymile.com, while logging my training. This week I move into intervals of longer duration and change ups on the weekend with a long ride (2-3 hours).

My next project is going to be to build another camera mount for a bicycle (like the steadicam arm) and I plan to give it away. Details coming in future posts.

VO2max results

I meant to post this sooner, here's the results of my VO2max testing plus a chart with my calculated training zones (below).

  • Maximum Heart Rate/VO2

    • Max HR 185 bpm

    • Max VO2 47 ml/min/kg.

  • 2 Minute Recovery

    • 153 bpm

  • Lactate Threshold

    • LT Heart Rate 164 bpm

    • LT VO2 34 ml/min/kg

    • LT:Max ratio 72%

I've been using these zones along with wattage data to try and make my training more effective over the the winter months. So far it seems to be working out, but the only way to tell for sure would be another test to see if I've actually managed to improve my threshold HR.

The spinning and yoga class is finished for January, but I've found it to be very beneficial. It always helps to have a coach for the spinning, intervals, ladders, etc and the yoga has helped my overall flexibility.

Weather permitting (wherever you are) Safe riding all.

Even more snow

Well, even more of that dreaded white stuff fell here in Wisconsin yesterday (Friday), around 7-8 inches of the stuff. The temperatures fell slightly after the snow, so it's still sticking to the trees (and the side streets). So it was back to Transition today for a long indoor ride. There were 8 of us on CompuTrainers and a couple more on rollers. Those of us on the CT's road a 56 mile rolling Australian Ironman course and watched The Bourne Identity on the projection screen. It makes the hills kind of a surprise when you hit them, but otherwise it was a great time and it felt good to actually do a long group ride for a change.

Winter riding

Because of too much of this...
I've been doing a lot more of this...I just finished the 2nd month of RyJax (Spinning
+ Yoga), I may sign up for Jan. and Feb. classes as
well. It looks like I'll finish out the year with
about 4,500 total miles
